This article gives you a formula to estimate the initial backup time of your R1Soft/Idera service based on the amount of data you want to backup, using an example

Solution

Assume, CDP uses 100% of bandwidth of the cable modem and there are no latency issues or packet loss.

Lets calculate the time to upload 50 GB initial backup.

1. Convert 50 gigabytes to bits

50 GB = (1024^3 * 50) * 8 = 53687091200 bytes * 8 = 429496729600 bits

2. Calculate the number of seconds to transfer 50 GB through 10 Mbps bandwidth

A megabit per second (Mbit/s or Mb/s or Mbps) is a unit of data transfer rate equal to 1,000,000 bits per second. 10 Mbps = 10,000,000 bps
429496729600 bits / 10,000,000 bps = 42,949 seconds

3. Convert seconds to days

42,949 seconds / 60 seconds / 60 minutes = 12 hours / 24 = 0.5 days
So, 0.5 day is the ideal case. But add in some latency, sharing the upload channel with other users and applications. So, the process can took even a few days.
